Yellow Submarine

2023 grant recipient - 3 month update

Didcot Youth Club made the most of the scarce nice weather this summer, with plenty of trips to the park to play games and to conduct messy science experiments! A variety of crafts and group activities, from tie-dying T-shirts to team quiz nights and an indoor escape rooms offered plenty of enjoyment for the participants. Multiple birthdays have been celebrated, including an 18th, usually by sharing a meal and a traditional caterpillar cake. Summer daytime activities included trips to theme parks, wildlife parks, play centres, a steam railway and the theatre to see a Horrible Histories show.

“Chloe, one of our members, has been attending Didcot Youth Club for several years with her brother Thomas. During that time, they have both grown in confidence as demonstrated by their positive relationships with their peers at the club. Chloe is willing to try anything and it is great to see her taking initiative in activities and inspiring other young people to join in. Chloe turned 18 this year, and her time at youth club has come to an end. Whilst we are sad to see her go, we are also immensely proud of her as she is off to university in Southampton in September. “

Project Summary

Yellow Submarine Youth Club is using their Powerhouse grant to provide a weekly term time evening youth club and holiday time day trips and activities for 11-18 year olds with mild to moderate learning disabilities and/or autism so they can have fun and meet others.

Yellow Submarine would really like to find their own space to run all their activities in the Didcot/Abingdon area, so if anyone can help, please get in touch with them or with Didcot Powerhouse.
