ADYP Intergenerational Community Cohesion Story

Abingdon DAMASCUS Youth Project (ADYP) supported young people to plan and deliver a community event in their village of Steventon, that would be fun for the whole family and will bring the community together. We decided on a Bingo event partnered with Roots and Shoots, a community café run by volunteers in the village.

Young people designed the posters and advertised the event, encouraging all ages to get involved.

Community Event

On the day of the event, young people greeted guests, welcoming them to their seats and explained how the bingo would work. Once everyone was ready, the bingo began! Young people were leading the bingo, calling the numbers, checking the cards and handing out prizes.

This event helped young people develop their employability skills, such as marketing and organisation, but also helped them grow in confidence and build on their communication skills.

One resident said: ‘’This has been the highlight of my week. It’s been wonderful getting to know the youngsters and I can’t wait for the next one!’’
