Spring campaign to engage with the community

The Didcot Powerhouse Fund is launching a series of spring community engagement events to get people connected, fundraise and to share the work that the Fund is doing locally. Powerhouse invites the public to take part, have fun and to make a positive difference. Details of all these activities can be located on the website here.

Powerhouse has set local pubs the exciting challenge of fielding quiz teams who will battle it out in the preliminary heats on Wednesday 29th May and the winning teams will be entered into the Grand Quiz Final on Wednesday 5th June 2024 at The Barn in Didcot. Ten pubs are already taking part in the fundraiser, with more to follow so simply form a quiz team of up to 6 people (£30 per team entry fee), sign up at a participating pub and be in with a chance to win the coveted inaugural Powerhouse Quiz Trophy for 2024.

Powerhouse Committee Member, Di Chesterman, organiser of the Grand Quiz said ‘This is a fantastic opportunity to represent your favourite pub, have some quiz fun with friends and to raise valuable funds for Didcot Powerhouse’s next annual grant-giving round in early 2025. This is going to be a highly competitive event, with a great deal of pride at stake.’

Looking to improve the local environment, a series of Powerhouse litter picks are taking place from 10.00 am – 12.00 pm at The Ladygrove Pub on 4th May, Didcot Wave Leisure Centre on the 11th May and Boundary Park Sports Club on 25th May. All the necessary equipment will be supplied, so people can simply come along on the day.

Powerhouse Committee Members Victoria Haval and Fiona Smart are already involved in other litter picking initiatives and are keen to enlist more volunteers to help keep Didcot clean. The initiative has even inspired local celebrity and Didcot Town Council Award Winner, Yarnsy to create a unique crochet postbox topper to display in the Broadway during May, celebrating the Didcot Spring Clean.

Powerhouse Turbine donor and member of the Advisory Committee, Valerian Court (located near Marsh Bridge) is staging a cash only car wash event on Saturday 11th May from 10am – 3.00pm with funds being split between Powerhouse and the Valerian Court Residents.  Small cars are £15 and large cars are £20 for an exterior wash. The team will be ready and waiting to make vehicles sparkle like new.

Powerhouse gives out grants to many volunteer and charity organisations in and around Didcot, helping people in the community to live better lives, from babyhood to adulthood. 2024 grants have contributed towards confidence building for young people to suicide prevention for men; learning support to vital parent and baby groups, plus many more community led initiatives. All the grant recipients can be viewed here.
